DWF ran its award-winning schools programme alongside key insurer client Hiscox this year.
Students from Ark Walworth Academy were invited to apply for the free scheme which improves confidence and develops employability skills.
DWF has worked with Ark Walworth Academy for five years and the relationship with the school has gone from strength to strength, with DWF playing an important role in the schools employability curriculum.
DWF works with schools local to each of its UK offices in areas where there are high percentages of young people recorded as Not in Employment, Education or Training. 5 STAR Futures involves monthly workshops at which the students learn about workplace behaviours and communication, all the while building up their resilience and confidence. The students learn everything from how to shake hands in a professional working environment to how to communicate effectively using social media. The mainstay of the programme is that the students interact first-hand with volunteers from all areas of DWF's business.
Carl Fazackerley, Director of Sixth Form and Head of Aspirations at Ark Walworth Academy, said: "The 5 STAR Futures programme is an integral part of our work skills and experience offering for our Year 10 students. The programme gives the students confidence and prepares them for the world of work by building on the many values that we share with DWF, including aspiration, resilience and excellence."
New to the programme this year has been DWF's partnership with Hiscox London Market, the leading insurer of global risks. Itiafa Akerejola, Graduate Specialty Claims Underwriter at Hiscox, said: "The 5 STAR Futures programme run by DWF is a fantastic initiative. Hiscox volunteers have really enjoyed taking part and contributing to the development of young people in London."
Sean Monks, Commercial Insurance Associate at DWF and leader of the programme in London, said: "5 STAR Futures works because of our volunteers – from personal assistants to HR advisors, and partners to apprentices – who all work closely with the students to develop their confidence. I'm really pleased about our partnership with Hiscox this year. As a business, we're always looking to make the most of our relationships with clients. The volunteers from Hiscox have all rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into every workshop, making each session even more fun and worthwhile not only for the students but also for our people."
