What is Colo?
The rental of cabinet space in a data centre for servers and other hardware owned by a business. Typically the colo provides power, cooling and bandwidth. The security of your system benefits in two key ways. Firstly, your system is physically safer by being inside a data centre which is better protected from fire, floods theft etc. Secondly, you are technologically safer by handing your data or servers behind data centre firewalls. What is RDS?
Remote Desktop Services (formerly Terminal Services) enable users to remotely access desktops and applications that typically run on a high spec server within a data centre.
Save on Hardware Costs - Because all your applications are hosted and running within the virtual desktop, the computer processing is done by top-of-the-range servers rather than a local computer. Using RDS gives businesses the ability to roll out inexpensive computers that are only required to process the initial connection to the RDS environment. The rest is done by the RDS servers.
Security and Consistency - RDS helps with standardisation and security as users logon to a standard desktop. The desktop includes a set of applications and users cannot install additional applications themselves. This reduces the possibility of viruses or malware being accidentally introduced to your network.
Efficiency and Control - For administrators, applications can be quickly installed or removed from the RDS servers which makes managing and maintaining the user environment much easier. It eliminates the need to install and/or update programs on potentially hundreds of client computers.

In a traditional server environment there are several physical servers with different roles. With virtualisation these servers run on a single server as individual virtual machines. These virtual machines appear and behave just as physical servers would.

What is Networking?
Networking allows different computing devices to communicate with each other and share data. They can be connected using physical cables or wirelessly.
Local Area Network (LAN) - These are used in most homes and businesses to connect computers, printers and routers etc. Wireless devices can also be added to a local network, and this is referred to as WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)

Local Area Networks / Wireless (LAN / WLAN) - From businesses with a handful of devices to larger enterprises with hundreds of devices, we have experience in maintaining networks and ensuring they are fully functioning. We manage everything from liaising with the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to get access to the internet, to IP address distribution (which allows devices to communicate) and configuring network shares allowing users to access data stored on the network.
Firewalls - Firewalls are used to protect networks from unauthorised access. The most common method for this is to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Domain and DNS Hosting / Configuration - Almost all companies have a domain that they use for their website and email e.g. www.dwf360.com / firstname.lastname@example.org. Domains need to be configured so that when users browse to the website or send an email, they get to the correct place. This configuration is done using DNS (Domain Name Services). We manage all Domain / DNS configuration requirements you have from end to end, including the purchase and setup of brand new domains.Networking Consultancy and Health Checks - We complete a detailed survey of your whole network which identifies any potential risks, speed issues or security flaws present. Upon completion we will provide a full report detailing what needs to be done to eradicate these risks. You can either take this report and implement the changes yourself, or we can assist you if you don’t have the in-house knowledge or resource.
