National business law firm DWF has been shortlisted for the Legal Sector Alliance Award for Excellence in Environmental Responsibility at this year's The Law Society Excellence Awards 2013.
Following the development of a new Environmental Management System (EMS), DWF was committed to achieving ISO 14001 certification and secured a result six months ahead of schedule. The EMS provides a framework for continuing to minimise the firm's environmental footprint and supports the firm's existing carbon reduction plan, which has seen DWF achieve a carbon reduction of 1.64 tonnes per person since 2010, one of the lowest in the Legal Sector Alliance.
Tyrone Jones, Head of Values & Corporate Responsibility commented: "The shortlisting for this award is great recognition of our environment strategy. Delivering against our environmental value in a robust and measured way shows our people that their environmental efforts are being recognised. It also shows our clients and potential clients that we take environmental sustainability seriously and that it is an inherent part of how we do business."
The award recognises those firms that have demonstrated commitment to the environment. From carbon management and energy efficiency through to sustainable procurement and innovative client partnerships, the judges are looking for a firm with a proactive environmental strategy that can evidence its impact, alongside best practice and new approaches.
DWF is up against five other firms, including magic circle firm Slaughter & May. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 22 October at the Park Plaza Hotel, London.
