Last night, Julie Simms, real estate partner at top 20 law firm DWF, was announced Young Lawyer of the Year, a joint award with Giles Chesher of Squire Sanders, at the prestigious North West Insider Young Professional Awards 2014.
Julie was commended for her prominence within the Liverpool market and the pivotal role she is playing for this year's International Festival for Business (IFB). As chair of the IFB Professional and Financial Services group, Julie is overseeing a week long programme of events from 30 June, including workshops, seminars and interactive sessions on topics such as intellectual property, business finance, arctic drilling and road safety. The week will support the IFB's aims to help promote economic growth and double UK exports by 2020.
Paul Rimmer, executive partner for DWF in Liverpool, said: "This award is fantastic recognition for both Julie and the Firm. Not only is she an exceptional lawyer, leading a team which is focused on delivering fantastic client service, but she has also invested heavily in supporting the International Festival for Business, an event which should showcase the North West business community at its best."
On the evening, Rupert Cornford, feature editor at Insider, praised the winners and shortlisted professionals for their contribution to the region's resurgence: "The values of professional integrity, hard work, commitment, and the ability to work with people are things all of you have in abundance. In a world where people buy from people, your own personal brand is probably more powerful than you know; in the sea of competition in the professional sector, it is even more important. I want to thank all of you for flying the flag for the North West with huge integrity and passion."
The annual awards recognise the best under-35 talent in the region from across the professional services, manufacturing, IT and technology, recruitment and HR industries, and this year's awards ceremony was held at The Lowry Hotel, Manchester.
