Michael Kingston has been named one of the Top 10 leading maritime lawyers of 2014 in the recently published prestigious Lloyd’s List Top 100 influencers in the global insurance, maritime & energy profession.
This accolade crowns a highly successful year for Michael and the DWF Marine, Trade and Energy team. Michael also won the Maritime Lawyer of the Year at the Lloyd’s List Global Awards in October 2014, which review outstanding contributions to the global shipping community.
Michael is a leading figure in the marine, trade and energy sectors and has been recognised by Lloyd’s for his influence and achievement in international regulation, the prevention of casualty and the creation of opportunities for the industry. He has been able to influence the shaping of the new Polar Code, which will regulate maritime risks within Arctic and Antarctic waters.
His work on risk, opportunity and best practice, in particular working with Arctic and Antarctic Governments has contributed to these issues being moved to the forefront of industry and governmental agenda. In August 2014 Michael was invited by the US Navy and US space agency NASA to assist their understanding of how satellite missions can reduce risk and enable safer navigation in Polar waters. Michael is representing the International Union of Marine Insurers in the finalisation of the Polar Code.
