At the recent AGM of the Midland LGBT Employee Network, Neil Jinks, a Director, of DWF’s Recoveries team, a Member of DWF’s Diversity Steering Group and an LGBT Champion, was elected to the committee that manages the Network.
The purpose of the Network is to provide the LGBT community in the Midlands with the opportunity to discuss workplace issues, with the aim to educate, motivate and inspire LGBT employees to be better supported and to provide them with a ‘safe space’ in which to share ideas, experiences and any concerns. The Network also serves to connect people who attend meetings irrespective of their background, occupation, level of responsibility, size of organisation or sector.
The network offers a series of events every year comprising of a varied programme, with engaging speakers, group discussions as well as informal networking. It is also a forum for sharing good ideas and best practice, to obtain advice and guidance about work issues. It also gives employers the opportunity to show their commitment and support of their LGBT employees with the opportunity to promote this and their business via the Network’s website. Current sponsors include, for example, PwC and National Grid. Members can also identify potential role models, mentoring solutions and other ideas through attending the events.
Thanks to the support of the Network’s sponsors and donors, all events are free of charge.
Neil Jinks said: “Given the level of support at the most recent event, it's clear that there’s still a real need for this, it’s a great format that attracts a wide range of diverse people, from various sectors.”
