DWF’s Chief Technology Officer Richard Hodkinson has been ranked for the third year in a row as one of the UK’s Top 50 CIOs by business technology magazine CIO, which showcases business leaders across a range of companies and sectors who are using technology to deliver organisational change.
Richard is commended for his entrepreneurial approach and success in channelling DWF’s £12m IT investment into a number of transformational projects that are increasing operational efficiency and delivering benefits for employees and clients. Initiatives include the implementation of a new management information system; the development of a range of client-focused products; e-billing and digital cheque generation; and the introduction of bespoke extranets which enable clients to track cases and billing in real time. Together, these developments resulted in DWF being recognised by clients as one of the top two firms in the UK for use of technology and knowledge services in Legal Week magazine’s independent client satisfaction survey.
The investment has also allowed for the development of a more efficient and well-managed workplace for employees. Following the firm’s series of mergers, Richard was responsible for unifying the various disparate IT systems, ensuring operational continuity and creating a strong platform for future growth. Further IT investment in the workplace, including the introduction of state-of-the-art video conferencing and a new intranet and internal messaging system, has facilitated increased communication between colleagues and is allowing employees to make full use of the firm’s agile working policy to maintain a better work/life balance. Richard has also been central to developing DWF’s approach to strategic resourcing by working with external suppliers who can help increase efficiency, including a partnership with Canon which has delivered a ‘world first’ in document management.
The inclusion on the CIO100 list follows Richard’s recent appointment as the first non-executive director of Converge, the UK’s only dedicated cloud computing provider for law firms.
