National legal business DWF has again been shortlisted for Regulatory Team of the Year in the Lawyer Awards, hosted by legal publication The Lawyer. DWF’s 26-strong regulatory team has been recognised for its work on a landmark international case which involved the strategic engagement of the UK and Irish Government and the EU Commission as well regulatory bodies in numerous member states and world-renown scientific experts to support an international food manufacturers use of innovation & technology to prevent infraction proceedings being brought against the UK Government.
The successful outcome of the case not only safeguarded the existence of the client’s business, but set a precedent for the future production of a specific class of food products.
DWF’s team was led by Hilary Ross, Head of DWF’s Food, Retail and Hospitality sector and recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 list, and Dominic Watkins, head of DWF’s Regulatory team in London, and were appointed because of their extensive experience of UK and European regulatory matters.
DWF’s regulatory team has acted on a series of high profile cases, including having taken a lead legal role successfully defending retailers in the horsemeat scandal which affected supply chains across Europe, and was the only law firm invited to give evidence to the Justice Select Committee meeting at the Palace of Westminster in February 2015 in relation to health & safety and food safety sentencing guidelines. DWF’s Regulatory team also plays a key role in the delivery of DWF’s innovative ‘Crisis Response’ service, which offers support 24/7 support to clients during any type of business crisis.
This is the second time in three years that DWF has been shortlisted. This time DWF is up against firms including Ashurst, Osborne Clarke, Shearman & Sterling, and Simmons & Simmons. The awards will be judged by a senior advisory judging panel and will be announced at a ceremony on 23rd June.
