DWF recognised for innovation in agile working and forward-thinking workplace design

National legal business DWF has been shortlisted for ‘Innovation in agile working’ and most ‘Most innovative use of office environment’ in The Lawyer Business Leadership Awards. Hosted by legal publication The Lawyer, the awards recognise the innovations in legal services, processes and delivery that are driving change in the legal market, and DWF has been recognised for the transformational impact of its IT initiatives.

Following a £12m investment in technology, DWF introduced a series of innovations to encourage agile working and support the firm’s 400 agile workers and 120 homeworkers, including state-of-the-art audio and video conferencing and a suite of internal communication tools, including an award-winning intranet platform and a secure internal social networking site, that allow DWF’s people to access information and communicate with colleagues from any location. These developments in agile working support a positive work-life balance for employees, allow the firm to recruit from a more diverse pool of talent and enable faster, more efficient and more cost-effective collaboration across the firm’s UK and international offices.

To offer employees a state-of-the-art working environment with exceptional facilities, DWF moved all of its 300 London-based employees to the City’s landmark Walkie Talkie building. At just 43,000 square feet, the office is less than half the space occupied by the firm’s London competitors but can support over 600 people thanks to a modern open-plan design with hot desks, meeting pods and breakout areas, cutting-edge IT tools including mobile printing and e-billing, and a world-first partnership with Canon that scans physical mail directly into the case management system in order to reduce required storage and floor space and enable fee earners to work remotely.

The results, determined by a panel of in-house lawyers, will be announced at a ceremony in September, where DWF is shortlisted against Axiom, Baker & McKenzie, Eversheds, gunnercooke, Kemp IT Law, Keystone Law, Mishcon de Reya and Vardags. DWF has a strong record of innovation and was recently awarded Legal Innovator of the Year at the 2015 Legal Business Awards and the Law Firm Innovation Award at the 2014 British Legal Awards and was ranked one of Europe’s 50 most innovative law firms by the Financial Times.
