National legal business DWF has appointed the former managing partner of Anderson Strathern, Andrew Lothian, as the firm’s Head of Casualty and General Insurance in Scotland, where he will work with DWF’s large national client base of insurers and public sector bodies.
Andrew brings over 18 years’ experience in insurance litigation and for the last ten years served as Anderson Strathern’s Head of Insurance Litigation, advising insurers, self-insured corporates and public bodies in disease, motor and catastrophic injury cases. He also has extensive experience in fatal accident inquiries, fraud, credit hire, policy coverage disputes and health and safety prosecutions. Also formerly Anderson Strathern’s Head of Public Sector, Andrew brings particular expertise in working with public bodies, including advising the Scottish and UK Governments and the Scottish Prison Service. Andrew will be based in DWF’s Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.
Commenting on his appointment, Andrew said: “DWF has one of the UK’s leading insurance practices and a reputation for delivering innovative solutions and legal expertise to its broad range of insurer clients, so I’m pleased to be joining the team and look forward to increasing engagement with clients and helping to grow and develop the firm’s capability further.”
Paul Berry, DWF’s National Head of Insurance, added: “Andrew is an experienced litigator with an exceptional track record in sensitive and complex cases and a deep understanding of the public sector which will add significant value to our client relationships both in Scotland and nationally.”
DWF recently completed a strategic merger with niche insurance practice Watmores in March 2015, which supports the firm’s planned national and international growth strategies by strengthening DWF’s insurance and local authority sector capability. In addition to bringing on five partners and directors through the merger, DWF recently appointed insurance partner Jeremy Irving from Eversheds in London and National head of Counter Fraud Lorraine Carolan from DAC Beachcroft in Birmingham.
