DWF advises Aviator on acquisition of London Gatwick ground handling operations

National legal business DWF has advised aviation services supplier Aviator on the acquisition of Swissport International’s ground handling operations at London Gatwick, making Aviator the largest ground handling provider at what is the UK’s second largest airport.

Stockholm-headquartered Aviator provides services to 23 airports across the Nordic region and the UK, delivering baggage, cargo and ground handling service to a number of Europe’s leading airlines. Last year DWF advised the company on its initial entry into the UK market through the acquisition of former Servisair ground handling operations at London Gatwick and Newcastle airports, and the acquisition of Swissport’s operations marks the next phase of the company’s strategic expansion in the UK.

As part of the acquisition, Aviator will become the largest ground handling provider at London Gatwick by turnover and customer portfolio and will increase the supplier’s workforce to over 4,200. Frank Shephard, partner and National Head of Corporate at DWF, advised on the deal with support from solicitor Matthew Judge.

Frank commented: "It has been a pleasure to continue to work with Aviator to expand its presence in the UK market, and build upon its service offering".

The deal is the latest in a string of high profile transactions that DWF has acted on; the firm was ranked the UK’s most active merger and acquisition legal advisor in a recent Experian report, following the completion of 88 transactions in the third quarter of the year, building on its position as number 1 at the end of the previous quarter.

The deal will take effect from 9 November 2015.
