DWF named Insurance Service Provider of the Year

West Midlands Insurance Institute Awards

DWF has been named Service Provider of the Year at the 2015 West Midlands Insurance Awards in recognition of the firm’s wide-ranging insurance expertise and commitment to delivering innovative legal services to its major base of insurer clients across the UK, Ireland and Dubai, where the firm opened a location in early 2015 in response to demand from insurer clients for legal support on the ground.

The firm’s nearly 1000-strong insurance team advises on a broad range of insurance specialisms and has developed a number of innovative products and services to support clients, including a new claims management system and client management, auditing and training services that help clients reduce costs and achieve a competitive advantage. DWF’s insurance team has also led on some of the industry’s most technically complex and high profile cases, including a recent Supreme Court case in which Birmingham partner and Head of Occupational Health and Casualty Derek Adamson successfully defended DWF client Zurich and in doing so set a precedent for the levels of indemnity which insurers must pay in mesothelioma claim cases.

The team also works with many leading industry bodies and national organisations on developing policies and advising on key issues affecting the insurance industry, and has given evidence on several government committees in relation to topical issues including the Mesothelioma Bill and the Polar Code. The firm’s Birmingham team in particular has been widely recognised for its insurance capability, consistently achieving Tier 1 rankings in the Legal 500 UK results, and many of the firm’s insurance lawyers, including partners Derek Adamson and Caroline Coates, have been commended as leading practitioners in the region.

Caroline Coates, Head of Insurance Sector and Executive Partner for DWF’s Birmingham office, commented: “This award highlights the true breadth and depth of our insurance team which is advising clients on some of the most technically complex and significant cases in the industry. This has been another strong year for our team in Birmingham and we’re continuing to build on this momentum by investing in new partners and developing new offerings in order to deliver outstanding service to our insurer clients.”
