DWF shortlisted for Birmingham Law Firm of the Year

National legal business DWF has been shortlisted in the legal category at the 2015 Birmingham Post Business Awards, which recognise the Midlands-based organisations and individuals that are demonstrating successful innovation, business development and community engagement across their respective industries, including legal, finance and manufacturing.

DWF’s Birmingham team has been recognised for its legal expertise, commitment to delivering innovative results for clients in the region and role in some of the industry’s most complex cases, including the recent ground-breaking Supreme Court case in which Birmingham partner and DWF’s Head of Occupational Health and Casualty Derek Adamson achieved a landmark victory in the insurance field. Derek was also recognised in the 2015 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Report for innovation in dispute resolution following the successful outcome of the case.

The firm consistently ranks highly for the quality of its legal advice, with the Birmingham team receiving tier one rankings for commercial litigation and personal injury in the 2015 Legal 500 UK guide. DWF’s Birmingham commercial litigation team in particular is regarded as a centre of excellence for international litigation and arbitration and acts in high-value cross-jurisdictional cases.

DWF’s Birmingham team has seen considerable expansion over the last year, with a number of appointments that are helping to expand the firm’s capability across key sectors and further build its profile in the region, including the recent appointments of partner Toby Askin to DWF’s National Head of Real Estate, along with partner Alice Broadfield to the firm’s banking team and partner Lorraine Carolan as the firm’s National Head of Counter Fraud, whose extensive experience in defendant personal injury work is allowing DWF to deliver increased value to the firm’s client base of major insurers. Associate Lucy Jackson from SGH Martineau and solicitor Ellen Roberts from Fodens Solicitors also recently joined the real estate team, bringing a broad range of experience in commercial and residential property projects.

The firm’s Birmingham team is also activity involved in the Birmingham community through charity activities with The Birmingham Children’s Hospital and participation in mentoring schemes including the award-winning 5 STAR Futures, which was recently recognised by the Financial Times for innovation in social responsibility.

The results will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on 12 November.
