Leading legal business DWF has been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Scottish Legal Awards in the Community Contribution of the Year and Lawyer of the Year categories.
DWF has been recognised for its innovative education programme 5 STAR Futures that delivers a range of tailored workshops to schools across the UK, including Edinburgh and Glasgow. The programme focuses on working with aspirational young people from low income backgrounds, and provides them with a practical framework enabling them to improve confidence, build resilience and develop key skills for future employment.
Corporate partner Paul Pignatelli has also been shortlisted for the Lawyer of the Year award. He has been recognised for his legal expertise, leadership, and commercial and collaborative approach to legal service delivery. The shortlist accolade follows a strong year for Paul and the Scottish corporate practice, which has seen a 30% uplift in year-on-year deals activity and acted on deals totalling over £400m.
Tyrone Jones, director of corporate social responsibility and engagement at DWF, said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for the Community Contribution award at this year’s Scottish Legal Awards. Building and maintaining strong community partnerships is key to driving our business forward in a responsible, sustainable way.
“Our aim is to improve social mobility and through initiatives, like 5 STAR Futures, and long term partnerships with schools we want to stop social background determining a young person’s future and bridge the gap between education and employment in areas of social and financial deprivation.”
Wayne Lawrence, executive partner for DWF’s Edinburgh office said: “Paul is a great corporate lawyer who not only delivers technical excellence for clients, but delivers real commercial advice to help support clients to achieve key business objectives. In a competitive market our corporate practice has continued to grow in size, capability and expertise - which is testimony to Paul and his team.”
Overall winners will be announced at the award ceremony on Thursday 24 March at the Assembly Rooms on George Street, Edinburgh.
