As part of our award-winning 5 STAR Futures scheme, we invited Year 7 pupils from All Hallows RC to take part in a series of interactive sessions with inspirational women from across our business.
International Women’s Day is an annual celebration of the social, economic and political achievement of women. To support this important awareness day, this year, our Manchester office hosted a workshop focused on encouraging young girls to maximise their potential and to open up professional services as a career path available to them.
The session was led by Beth Grey, a Trainee Solicitor in our Commercial Insurance department, who invited several inspiring speakers: Catherine Williams – Chief People Officer; Helen Fleet – Finance Business Partner; Julia Williams – Director and Head of the Lender Services Department; Jennifer Clarke – Executive Support Manager; and Catherine Haslam – Partner and Head of our Solar Sector. Each talk was unique, personal and motivating for the pupils – and even the volunteers.
Our people Hepzi Williams-Arnold, Rebecca Harvey, Zoe Moore-Martin, Laura-Louisa Betts and Rebecca Lilly supported the pupils through several exercises during the workshop, which included reviewing articles on influential famous women; committing to personal goals using pledge cards; and writing positive messages for other young girls on our Inspiration Wall.
Gail Taylor, Diversity & Community Manager, said: “We are dedicated to ensuring DWF continues to work hard, raising awareness on gender equality. A visible part of our approach is the work that we do with local schools through 5 STAR Futures – to mentor and raise the aspirations and academic performance of young people, and to provide them with positive and accessible role models from within our business.”
