DWF builds insurance capability as it merges with niche insurance law firm Fox Hartley

To strengthen its insurance, litigation and product liability expertise, leading legal business DWF has acquired niche insurance law firm Fox Hartley. The merger took effect on 1st May 2016.

The strategic acquisition will enhance DWF’s insurance sector expertise; support its growing focus on the Lloyd’s insurance market; and help the firm secure new domestic and international insurer clients.

Fox Hartley built up a strong reputation delivering specialist litigation and alternative dispute resolution services to major insurer and manufacturer clients, including a number of clients shared with DWF. The firm’s litigation and insurance specialists have brought with them to DWF niche capabilities in catastrophic injury, aviation claims, property damage, business interruption, policy wording disputes and the development of new products. In addition, the firm’s specialist product liability guidance and expertise in advising on serious incidents and health and safety prosecutions has augmented DWF’s existing capabilities in delivering domestic and international product liability guidance to clients across a wide range of industry sectors including retail and marine.

Fox Hartley’s three partners, Trevor Fox, Michael Hitchings and Peter Barnes, and all of its 13 Bristol-based people have now joined DWF and will benefit from DWF’s scale, operational efficiency, international reach and innovative client service.

DWF is one of the top three insurance law firms in the UK with approximately 900 people advising clients including Aviva, QBE, RSA, Travelers and Zurich.
