Steffan Groch, head of regulatory and partner at legal business DWF, has been re-elected for the third consecutive time as Chair of the UK Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association (HSLA) for a two-year term.
As a national organisation with over 550 members comprising solicitors, barristers, prosecutors and defence lawyers, the UK Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association is aimed at practitioners and academic lawyers who have a firm interest in the development of health and safety law and improving the practice of health and safety in the UK.
Steffan has been a member of the HSLA since it was formed in 2006 , in his time as Chair he has helped to increase membership by around 75% and due to leading the initiative to utilise the groups budget, there are now twice as many members’ events now than in 2012. His role includes attending select committee hearings, speaking at national conferences and liaising with governmental advisors on policy development.
Steffan comments of his re-appointment: “It is a real honour to be re-elected as Chair of the committee and I am delighted my peers have voted for me once again. This has been a year of change for Health and Safety law with the introduction of the new health and safety sentencing guidelines, so it is now as important as ever for the association to further educate and train its members by ensuring there is access to quality events and increasing awareness of legal health and safety duties.”
Steffan has been at DWF for 16 years, where he works on a national basis providing expertise in health and safety regulation. He also acts as a legal adviser on the institution of Occupational Safety and Health’s construction committee whilst also leading the firm’s Award-winning Crisis Response product, which provides real-life application of crisis preparation, and round-the-clock support to help protect businesses and reputation during a crisis.
