International legal business DWF has appointed litigation partner Romain Dupeyré to its Paris team as the firm continues to strengthen its European offering following its recent merger with French firm Heenan Paris. Romain joins from litigation boutique BOPS and specialises in international arbitration and insurance litigation.
Romain has substantial experience across a range of litigation matters and acts as Counsel in arbitration cases with a focus on construction, which aligns with DWF's internationally recognised real estate capability. He has expertise handling cases relating to the international sale of goods, distribution and shareholders disputes as well as acting in annulment procedures. He is regularly appointed as sole arbitrator or chair by arbitral institutions.
His strong insurance background, which predominantly focuses on property and liability insurance, will be of benefit to clients with regard to international insurance programs, and he will focus on building DWF's liability capability in Paris to complement the firm's well-established UK practice. His expertise includes coverage litigation, such as obtaining the annulment of a policy for misrepresentation of the insured, obtaining the application of an exclusion clause due to intentional misconduct from the underwriter, as well as significant experience handling recovery proceedings and industry litigation, including insurer and broker disputes and contribution procedures. Romain is the Chair of the ALEA association on insurance litigation.
Romain's work has a particular focus on Africa, which complements DWF France's strong capability in the region, in particular through its alliance with the South African law firm Thomson Wilks. The continent is of strategic importance to DWF's clients, in particular in the Middle East and Germany, who are taking advantage of the significant opportunities in the region, notably in the energy, insurance and financial services sectors.
Jean-François Mercadier, DWF France Managing Partner, said: "Romain's appointment is the first step of DWF France's development post-merger, consolidating the firm's profile in the African market as one of the leading firms in Paris. DWF France has a strong transactional and corporate practice and Romain's appointment is part of our plan to establish a complete litigation and arbitration offering, as well as a build our specialist insurance expertise, for the benefit of clients in France and internationally."
Romain Dupeyré said: "DWF France is already recognised as one of the leading law firms in Africa and we intend to build on this reputation by introducing transactional and litigation work alongside in-depth local knowledge, and develop robust liability insurance and commercial property litigation service lines, that complement the firm's current capability."
DWF merged with French firm Heenan Paris at the start of 2017, which significantly strengthened its European footprint and allowed the firm to grow its international client base and deepen its sector focus, particularly in energy and financial services.
