DWF appoints insurance litigation partner in London

International legal business DWF has appointed partner Antony Woodhouse in its City insurance team, enhancing its litigation capability. Antony joins from Gowling WLG and specialises in international and cross-border disputes.

Antony's practice includes advising insurance and reinsurance companies, Lloyd's syndicates and intermediaries in litigation, mediations and arbitration and he has extensive expertise in Bermuda Form matters. His expertise comprises advising clients on energy risks, including property and business interruption, general and professional liability, subrogation issues, D&O, E&O and financial lines coverage.

His reinsurance disputes experience has seen Antony handling matters following natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita as well as major energy plant explosions. Antony is frequently brought in to advise on high-value and high-profile cases, including advising a Lloyd's syndicate on foreign and UK proceedings brought in relation to reinsurance commutations, assisting several European banks in handling their exposure to the Lehman-backed Dante programme, which entailed settling Commercial Court proceedings, and representing a large excess insurance carrier through an international arbitration due to coverage for D&O liability deriving from energy price fixing allegations in California.

Antony Marsh, DWF Head of Professional Indemnity and Commercial Insurance, said: "As traditional domestic insurance work is becoming increasingly commoditised, it's important that we continue to develop our practice to offer a complete commercial service alongside high-value international work. Antony's substantial Bermuda Form work is highly sought after in the London insurance market and his extensive experience across banking dispute work, energy and professional lines complements DWF's existing City offering."

Antony Woodhouse said: "DWF has one of the largest insurance practices in the country and a sound international platform. The firm provides me a solid platform to grow my banking and advisory work, but also to consolidate and augment my Bermuda practice, enabling the firm to deliver stronger international work as DWF continues its expansion into new jurisdictions."

In January 2017, DWF significantly enhanced its international insurance offering with the acquisition of global claims business Triton Global, giving it offices in Chicago, Toronto and Sydney in addition to its UK-wide locations.
