International legal business DWF has announced it has become a member of Employers for Carers (EfC), a leading organisation that raises awareness of carers at work, as the firm commits to National Carers Week 2017.
EfC provides practical advice and support to working carers and drives engagement from employers to review policies, training and guidance to ensure carers feel able to work. Research conducted by the organisation in 2016 showed that one in nine employees are caring for someone older, disabled or seriously ill at home and that three in five people will care for someone at some point in their lives. Over three quarters of respondents said that being a carer was difficult to balance alongside working and 75% said caring had a negative impact on their own health.
DWF's partnership with the EfC aligns with the firm's strategy to create and maintain inclusive, diverse and supportive environments throughout its locations.
Gail Taylor, DWF Diversity and Community Engagement Manager, said: "We are committed to ensuring all of our people are supported and by raising awareness through the expertise of Employers for Carers, this will help us to offer the guidance and assistance, which is important to ensure our people are getting the best support they can to help with their caring responsibilities. We are very pleased to be partnering with such an experienced organisation and leaders in their field."
Mary Edwards, Employers for Carers Manager, said: "The number of carers in the UK is set to grow from six million to nine million in the next 30 years and nearly half of these will be juggling work alongside their caring responsibilities. We strongly believe this is an issue none of us can afford to ignore. By joining as a member, DWF LLP has taken the positive step towards supporting their working carers and now all employees can access support from both EfC and Carers UK."
DWF is regularly recognised for its people-driven initiatives, including named as a Top 10 Employer for Working Families, shortlisted for Company of the Year at the European Diversity Awards 2016, ranked in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2017 list for LGBT staff and commended for innovation in human resources at the 2016 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards.
