Scottish civil court rules: update on rewrite project

In March the Scottish Civil Justice Council’s Rules Rewrite Working Group set out its recommendations for the Rules Rewrite Project.  In total, 13 recommendations have been made in the interim report, which sets out the overarching framework for the most wide-ranging revision of the Scottish civil court rules to date. One of the aims of the project is to make these rules more accessible for all court users by consolidating and simplifying the existing rules. The current rules have arisen in a piecemeal fashion over many years, resulting in duplication and specialisation of rules which adds unnecessary complexity.
