EU rejects extension to country of origin labelling

The EU Directorate General for Agriculture has published the results of studies on the merits of extension of country of origin labelling requirements for meat, dairy and other ingredients making up more than 50% of a product under the Food Information Regulation. In what will come as a relief and possibly a surprise to many businesses in the food sector the conclusion reached is that the merits don’t justify the costs involved.

Primary Authority extension to be included in Enterprise Bill

The details remain unclear but the Government has made a strong commitment to building on ‘Primary Authority’ in an Enterprise Bill to be published in the Queens speech.

EU publish Better Regulation strategy

The EU Commission, Council and Parliament have jointly published a communication ‘Better Regulation for Better Results – an EU strategy’ setting out commitments to improve transparency, consultation & feedback opportunities and independent scrutiny of impact assessment processes.
