Sugar firmly in the spotlight

  • The Government’s independent Scientific Committee on Nutrition has published its final report on carbohydrates and health calling for reduction of the recommended sugar intake from 10% to 5% of the diet and a substantial increase in fibre consumption.
  • Public Health England has called for a reduction in consumption of sugary drinks by children and is also due to publish recommendations to Government later this month.
  • DoH have also responded to the Parliamentary Select Committee report on the impact of diet and physical activity on health.

ASA uphold complaint re health claims

In upholding a complaint re the ‘Le-Vel Brand’ website the ASA again extends the definition of what is a general health claim.

Outcome of pricing practices super-complaint published

  • The Competition and Markets Authority has published its formal response to the complaint made by Which? regarding Supermarket pricing practices.
