ASA in the spotlight over health rulings

  • The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld four complaints in respect of a TV advertising campaign for the ‘Jane Plan’ diet.
  • Food pressure group Sustain has criticised ASA for informal resolution of a complaint involving ‘Heinz Biscotti’, which it alleged were not an ‘ideal snack’ for babies (as claimed) due to high sugar content.

FSA and Food Standards Scotland disagree over ‘rare burgers’

In considering its approach to sale of Raw Burgers the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Board suggested that they should be accompanied by labelling explaining potential risk.

Travel to work time for mobile workers to count as hours worked

The European court of Justice has ruled that travel time for mobile workers going to and from different locations at the beginning and end of day should be counted as working hours under the Working Time Directive.

Gambling sector urged to review controls

Following the conclusion of two investigations, the Gambling Commission is urging businesses to review the adequacy of controls they have in place with regard to anti-money laundering and social responsibility.

Consultation launched on improving air quality

DEFRA has launched a detailed consultation on a range of national and local measures aimed at improving air quality.
