National fire safety investigation launched

BIS Secretary of State Sajid Javid has launched an investigation by Trading Standards on the flammability of children’s dressing up costumes.

More pressure for local sourcing

DEFRA Secretary of State Elizabeth Truss has called for more labelling of local products and extension of mandatory origin labelling to dairy products by the EU.

Review of Food Standards Advisory Committees

The Food Standards Agency has announced a review of all six of its Advisory Committees, putting out a call for evidence. Closing date 5 November.

Childhood obesity strategy to be published

In responding to the 145,000 signature petition calling for a health levy on sugary drinks, the Government has rejected the idea of a sugar tax but committed to publishing a strategy on childhood obesity this year.

Revised Guidance on carrier bag charging

DEFRA have published revised guidance on carrier bag charging due in force on 5 October.
