My work covers the whole range of commercial litigation, including advising clients who find themselves in ‘the eye of a storm’, who need swift, strategic advice dealing with regulatory bodies, the media, shareholders, directors and employees. I also have experience dealing with the litigation and tactical aspects of winding up in the Irish insurance market.
I have acted for various clients in relation to investigations by the Central Bank of Ireland, the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, professional regulatory bodies and international financial and insurance regulators. I lecture on Discovery for the Law Society’s Commercial Litigation Diploma and have particular knowledge of eDiscovery.
I have considerable experience in product liability defence work, often with key international dimensions. I lecture on product liability for the Law Society and write the Irish Chapter on Product Liability published by Getting the Deal Through. I am a member of the International Bar Association’s Committee on Product Law and Advertising, chaired a session at the IBA’s annual conference in Boston in 2013 and am scheduled to co-Chair another in Tokyo this year. I have a wide network of international legal contacts, was a member of the Executive Committee of AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers) and Sedona International (Sedona Conference WG6) in relation to document retention, data protection and eDiscovery.
I have been advising Irish and multinational companies and high net worth individuals on contentious employment law issues for years as well as on business immigration. I obtained first class honours in the Diploma in Employment Law (University College Dublin) and came first in the year overall.
I have acted for a number of high profile international media clients and have experience in intellectual property disputes, particularly trademark and copyright infringement and passing off actions.
I am a strong advocate of mediation of commercial disputes, am Vice-Chair of the Irish Commercial Mediation Association and a CEDR accredited mediator. I was co-mediator of the first Commercial Court case to go to mediation under the Commercial Court Rules and a member of the first Panel of Accredited Mediators established by CEDR in Ireland. I lecture on the Law Society’s Mediation Diploma. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and obtained the CIArb International Commercial Arbitration Diploma, Oxford.
