I represent clients involved in commercial disputes and regulatory investigations by the European Commission, the UK Competition and Markets Authority or UK industry regulators. I regularly act in EU and competition law based litigation and arbitration proceedings.
I am very experienced in advising businesses on regulatory issues connected with mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. This includes providing regulatory risk assessments and notifying transactions to European and UK authorities, as well as dealing with investigations and remedies. In addition, I am experienced in co-ordinating multijurisdictional filings across Europe and beyond for major cross-border transactions.
I also represent third party complainants objecting to transactions that adversely impact their business.
I routinely advise on competition law aspects of commercial agreements and intellectual property licences, seeking commercial solutions and taking an informed view on risks. My other areas of expertise are EU State aid law, public procurement and free movement issues, and I am experienced in advising on EU and UK broadcasting and telecommunications regulation.
I have particular experience in the technology, media, healthcare, leisure, and telecommunications sectors.
I am recognised as a recommended practitioner for competition law by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners directories. Chambers states that: "Howard Cartlidge…focuses on investigations and litigation, especially in the TMT and life sciences sectors. Of late he has been highly active on mergers. Clients say: 'His pragmatic approach to things is very helpful.'"
