Partner - Head of Nuclear & Joint Head of Environment
I am a Partner at DWF and Head of Nuclear and Joint Head of Environment. I have advised on commercial arrangements in the UK nuclear sector (primarily decommissioning) and have experience in licensing and nuclear regulatory issues. I also have broad environmental experience (both contentious and non-contentious) and have acted for a range of clients covering a variety of sectors.
I have acted on a large number of high profile cases across the UK and Europe concerning the decommissioning of nuclear sites, the transportation of nuclear material and the clean-up of legacy nuclear sites. I also have licensing and regulatory experience in nuclear new build.
I have advised on acquisition strategies and commercial projects and have engaged with industry associations and authorities, including negotiations with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, on a wide range of policy issues including insurance, waste and intellectual property.
I am familiar with the range of licensing, permitting and regulatory issues that nuclear new build projects face, as well as the unique corporate governance issues that potential nuclear site licensees need to overcome.
The impact of changes to the nuclear liability regime on the insurance sector
Major changes are due to the nuclear liability regime in the UK, meaning that in the event of a nuclear incident an increased amount of compensation will need to be made available to a wider category of claimants.
The implications for UK environmental legislation following Brexit
One key aspect to consider when looking at the impact of Brexit on specific environment legislation is the role the EU and the UK have played in the development of specific environmental policies and legislation.
