I have advised and represented medical and dental defence organisations, private clients, private hospital groups, private hospitals, insurance companies, PCTs, the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) and all three medical defence organisations.

My cases have included large numbers of complex and high value clinical negligence claims spanning the medical specialities and including claims in relation to neurology, cerebral palsy, spinal and orthopaedic, plastic surgery, ophthalmology and paediatric. I have dealt with periodical payment orders (PPOs) and structured settlements.

I have extensive experience of regulatory work, defending doctors and other healthcare practitioners whose registration is called into question by the General Medical Council (GMC) and other healthcare regulatory bodies (GDC, NMC, GOC, HCPC). I have been involved in serious untoward incident inquiries and have represented doctors at independent inquiries. I have advised in relation to numerous medico-legal issues including harassment, defamation, capacity, consent, confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. I have acted for doctors at employment tribunals and for healthcare professionals in injunction and judicial review proceedings. I have represented medical professionals as an advocate at numerous complex inquests, including deaths in custody. Those inquests have often developed into both regulatory and civil proceedings.

I have also advised medical regulators in relation to Judicial Review challenges brought against them, including by the Professional Standards Authority. I have advised Royal Colleges in relation to similar challenges brought by way of Judicial Review in relation to their examination and accreditation procedures. I have advised doctors on applications for Specialist Accreditation by the GMC and in relation to employment issues including those being conducted under the auspices of Maintaining High Professional Standards in the Modern NHS. I have advised doctors subject to Royal College of Surgeons’ Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) investigations.

I have lectured and trained in relation to the entire spectrum of healthcare law.
